Yah, unless in some cheapo warehouse location, that means all members must have car or motorcycles. The equipment no that exp but the rental, and utility bills can kill. But imagine we have a gym like the temple gym , all cement flooring, some rubber mat on free weights area, dark and open air.

not a veri good idea, unless we haf like 100++ members, the rent plus utilities is gonna eat u alive ;D summore even wif so mani members, every has also got to pay like 50 bux a month to maintain it.Look at ssc's gyms, even wif their economies of scale they are still losing monies every month. Actually, my parents are exploring the possibilties of opening a fitness centre ;D psst psst maby we can relly haf a hardcore gym in sg in the far future

warehouses along paya lebar are going for 80cents per square foot and u got alot of commercial entities over there. so lunch and after work training crowds are there. fruthermore, near to paya lebar mrt.
imagine a big warehouse floor space with 20x power racks, benches and tons of weights. that is one heck of a gym here in SG that will put the current gyms to shame.

Do they allow setting up of gym there? 20 rack a bit too much. 4 racks will be plenty. ;D

Apart from that, u can put anything there. check out the place at www.place2lease.com for commercial warehouse storage. 4 racks? no lah. u will be surprise just how many users will do bicep curl or talk on hp inside the rack. actually racks design are very basic.. can get those hardware shops to construct them at a fraction of the cost. last time at world gym, most of the gym equipment are customed made.

I was there too. Their equipments have lots of maintenance problem because of the poor quality. The cable cross over always have to be oiled, the oil then stick the plates in the stack together. When I pull, one piece not hold by the pin is "stick" up then drop like a bomb. Their smith machine also have problem cos not stable and one side can go higher. In fact almost all their moveable equipment have problem after some time. Then at another gym they fabricate a power rack locally, the factory did a wrong alinement and the safety catcher is slanted one. I dun trust these local fabricated equipments at all. ;D

so long ago, i can hardly recall it. that was back in 1990. but i did recall the jamming of the wires for the pulldown. last time was young, didn't know the diff between a power rack or a smith. of course getting new ones from a professional manufacturer is ideal. concern is cost..
howabout those bomb shelter at bishan? looks good enough but i think quite ex. in rental. the flooring and surroundings are very sturdy, built to withstand a bomb blast. so u can hammer away the weights all u want. the downside is that they will want u to evacuate the premises should they require it (e.g. in a war)
locations and ammenities are good. i think they got basic showering facilities but hey, this ain't gonna be a pink powdered fitness centre right? ;D

Bomb shelter? never even heard of it b4, where? www.streetdirectory.com/scdf/if u go to bishan, hougang or pasir ris area, u will see two type of bomb shelters; those that are above ground and those that are underground. these bomb shelter are rented out to commercial entities like super-mart, hair dressing, furniture selling, tution centre, PC repair and even a foot massage reflexology centre. The floor area is big, at least 60mx30m (estimate)..heard the rental is cheap coz it is underground which is not attractive to most biz people. i will check out the rental prices.

wow seems like good idea man. like those gyms in US... ronnie coleman's hahas. cement with mats scattered everywhere. I bet if we set up one. We have a few problems. 1) location sure no good, so members must have own vehicle. 2) All members very on, so all come regularly and gym super pack at peak hours. Maybe you know how many members join those commercial chain gym and stopped going after first 2 weeks. These "phantom" members are great income. ;D
