hehe you need good coachin for optimal performance in the lift. I dont feel that its too dangerous... unless the ego gets ahead of the ability haha but thats the case for even a bicep curl. Good wrist flexibility is important though for the catch part of the lift.

guys, i tried doing the press with just the bar alone. sad to say, my left rotator cuff doesn't seem to agree with the movement. can still feel a twitching pain when the bar goes onto the shoulder. Look like i have to call it quit.

mayby ur doing it wrongly. Anyway sg gyms are not olympic lifting friendly ;D no.. i had sustained RC injuries before and the pain will start when a certain movement is exerted. flat press is out for me. most public and CC gyms are not hardcore-user-friendly at all. ;D

Home gym is very possilbe. One power rack and one adjustbale bengh. 1 set adjustable dumbells. and lots og differnt olympic plates. 1 olympic bar. It should cost less than 5000. Thats less than one of those fancy plasma TVs:) haha. However one thing i am not sure is e.g an average HDB floor, can it take the loading of such a setup? hehe I'd really like to know! I cant stand the whimpy s'pore gyms...
BTW oracle, what postion is painful? Overhead is it?

no, it is the upswing that hurts. my RC hurts only when doing movement like dumbbell laterals, flat bench press. For flat BP, it hurts when mounting/dismounting the bar from the bench and if i use a wider-than-shoulder grip.
i have no problem in incline or shoulder press. my left shoulder is rather skewed. had been to western doctor and sinseh, had oral painkiller and cortisone shot (cause acne outbreak). No matter how much i rest, cannot heal. I guess i have to live with it.

lok3, there is no upright Row/ reverse bicep curl protion. The explosion of teh hips causes the bar to travel up. The arms DO NOT pull. They remain straight. They only bend because the upward momentum of the bar causes them to. you catch teh bar on your front delts (as in a front squat) when the bar is "weightless" at the top of its path...

I cant stand the whimpy s'pore gyms... home gyms are possible in hdb flats. I used to do civil engineering structural design imy my early worklife and the HDB flat is designed to take higher load. Even those fish tanks of 2 set of 5ftx2ftx2ft tanks are possible in HDB. one such tank can hold (5x.3+2x.3+2x.3)*1000 =432kg per full tank. two of them will be nearly 900kg on a stand. So, theorectically, u can have a full set at home but it will be your neighbour downstair that will complain the most coz of the thumping sounds and the concrete floor can only withstand load but not shock. The ceiling is reinforced but the concrete covering is less than 40mm thick. so any impact on the top floor, the shock might cause concrete cracks below. So it will be best to have own heavy duty gym if u have your own landed property or live on ground floor at HDB flat. i did ever want to buy one such unit so as to do this but the fear of thingyroaches flying into house are too great for me.

"home gyms" and i also want to ask... what if we put some heavy duty rubber padding on the floor? regds Joantahn
