I am looking for a powerful anti-oxidant supplement.
Heard quite a bit about these three compounds, glutathione, alpha lipoic acid and NAC which are quite good at removing free radicals especially glutathione.
A little bit of crash course on anti-oxidants is needed. Thanks.

I am looking for a powerful anti-oxidant supplement. Heard quite a bit about these three compounds, glutathione, alpha lipoic acid and NAC which are quite good at removing free radicals especially glutathione. A little bit of crash course on anti-oxidants is needed. Thanks. The most basic antioxidants are Vit C and E. The former one is water soluble and the latter is fat soluble. Our body consists of fat soluble and water soluble zones and hence they serve their antioxidant functions in their respectively zone. There is interaction of the two between the borders of the 2 zones. A general daily recommendation for vit C and vit E intake is 500-1000mg and 100iu to 200iu daily. There are however many other antioxidants in our diet like flavonoids from brightly coloured fruits and vegetable. Catechins from tea leaves are also powerful antioxidants. It is important to take a variety of AO, as certain ones are more effective against certain type of free radicals. Glutathione is the most abundant AO made by our body. Taking Whey increase the body's production of Glutathione. Alpha Lipoic acid is touted as a universal AO, being both fat and water soluble. But I am not a big fan of it as it is not an economical AO by itself and I am not sure if adding Alpha Lipoic acid to a mixture of Vit C and E with fruits and vege and tea will make it more effective. N-acetyl Cysteine is another case like Alpha Lipoic acid. Again for A-O supplementation, stick to the basics (Vit C and E) and add brightly coloured fruits and veges to give the best A-O effect. Beware of A-O claim in supplements and many ingredients has A-O properties more or less. One thing to beware is not to take too much A-O. Oxidation is needed in the production of testosterone. There is an interesting report in ST today regarding calories intake and lifespan. Note that the more calories you take the more oxidation occur in the body. Sumo Wrestler have a lifespan of 56 years old, they take 5500 calories per day. Japanese men take 2300 calories per day and live to 76 years old. Okinawanese men live to 82 years old and they live to 82 years old. ;D
