When I was in the Army, a platoon mate who was trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine commented that I ate lots of very heaty i.e. "Yang" food like eggs, milk, gainers, oat and wheat biscuit. It came from experience that these food are those that I make gain on. On the other hand I also take lots of cooling food like barley and liang Tea. Think my body is very Yang when I am bodybuilding and eating these food. At times I get very bad heaty cough if I do not drink enough water and cooling drink/food.
Do you guys believe in this Yin and Yang thing?

My chinese teacher once told me this; hes from china btw. TCM is the biggest con job in history. Many ridiculious treatments which is unseen now, exists a long time ago. This includes boiling ur herbs at .... time and under the full moon ect. TCM probably works due to the placebo effect.
His dad is both a certified Western and TCM practitioner. ;D
What do you guys think?

Remember Mahuang is an essential ingredient in all Chinese Cough formula and Western Medicine develop ephedrine based on MaHuang? Of course, standardisation will improve the quality of Chinese Herbs prepartion. Germany has made many breakthrough in the standardisation of Herbal prepartion. One thing is true, there is lots of con job in TCM treatment, some involing poking a bamboo stick into the anus to treat constipation (it cause death documented in a case in Singapore and the "doc" went to jail). Chinese herbal prepartion is far more complex that we can imagine. I realised that there are some ingredients that when taken may involved bacteria action in the large colon to modify certain ingredient for benefit to take place. Of course in such cases, the authencity and potency of the herb in the portion will be very important. But the Yin and Yang theory of the Chinese Medicine canot be undermined is my opinion. The feeling of the pulse for example if mastered properly is a very effective diagnosing skill. Chinese medicine also emphasise a lot on proper blood circulation that once disrupted caused many disease states. Remember how often Western medicine blame the cause of death on heart attack? Hua Tuo started doing analgestic and operation in internal organs way before western field. At that time TCM was like 500 years ahead of the western field. The problem is perhaps Chinese have more selfish mentality like keeping 70% of knowledge to themselves and only pass 30%. Teach too much the student will kill sifu kind of mentality. Whereas in Western field, teacher teach 100% and student breakthrough to add on another 10% to reach 110%. But things are changing with the combination of Chinese and Western Medicine in the more recent years.
