Tell me what you think of this. To me, i prefer whole food. Reason is simple, God made the nutrients in the right balance in nature. Food processing to isolate nutrients would upset the balance and reduce the assimilation by the body. Supplements can be used in a limited application, for eg when you are lacking in certain stuff. Otherwise get them from whole food. When sportspeople avoid white flour, white sugar and other "junk food", they guzzle down manmade supplements by the gallons. Worse, the supplements athletes are taking also contain the bad stuff that are found in junk food: dextrose, high fructose corn syrup among others. What's the difference? They are all processed food. You want more protein? Eat more meat, eggs, fish etc. You want more carbo? Eat more complex carbo vegetables like potatoes, cereals etc. Read this article on processed food by Paul Chek. www.chekinstitute.com/articles.cfm?select=42

there is no comparison here at all. supplements are supplements. they are supplementary to your whole food diet and are not meant to replace it. eg. anyone taking MRPs in place of ALL their meals is not in a right state of mind. supplements are meant to be convenient, where else can you get "26grams of high quality protein in every serve!" in one convenient shake? i would go further to tell you about how times have changed since the days of high sugar gainers but it is getting late.

Supplements can never replace whole food.
Supplements may offer several advantages:- 1) convenience. I used to be so tired after training that I could fall asleep immediately. I gulp down a serve of protein and carbo mixture to take advantage of the 1 hour window and then go to bed. 2) amount of a natural substance that is difficult to obtain from whole food to give full benefits, eg. creatine 3) psychological gratification. The packaging of many supplements look great. Buying them, taking them and even looking at them makes me feel good. Some even taste very good too. 4) complement a good diet. It will be difficult to eat a very good diet all the time. Supplements can improve an already good diet for maximum recovery especially if the person have good knowledge of sports nutrition like some members here.

The word SUPPLEMENT says it all, its a good "bonus" on top of a well planned quality whole meals. Totally agree with Lawrence. But there are some MRPs that are actually good enough to replace some meal (if required), like when the busy working executive is doing OT (overtime) and does not want to junk on snacks. One is Prolab's Lean Mass Matrix and the other is non other than our Micellean Bioactive MRP. Read the labels for these 2 products and let me know if there's any disagreement
