Or u can do SLDLs ;D I got no leg curl machine at home u can do seated calf raise. saw this guy doing it ... in a power rack. he loaded the bars with weights on the supporting bar, sat down, put a towel on his thigh which support the bar, then tip-toe both legs on a wooden plank and do heavy calve raise.

Some people including me believe to get your calves bigger, you need to increase body weight by 5-10kg. This type of belief is strongly preached by Struat McRobert author of the famous book Brawn. You need to use hormone-secreting exercises like the big 3 three squat, bench and row as the driver. From there smaller body parts like arms and calves can take advantage of the anabolic hormonal environment and the stimulation of the appetite to GROW! ;D

I feel pain on the lower end of my vertebrates when I use heavy enough weight, anyone know what's wrong? The constant shift of the weight in an akward motion makes maximal effort almost impossible. Thse wierd movement probally caused some shifting of the discs and hitting some nerves??? This is my guess, not too sure though, anyway, until now, I still cannot do lunges properlly so Ill just skip it. ;D

leg curls hit the hams as well as the calves. It's not crap man. The gastrocnemius cross the knee joint so it plays a part in knee flexion as well, albeit little. But when the load is high, the level of activation of these muscles becomes significant. Feel the difference doing leg curl with the feet pointed and flexed. With flexed feet its easier because the gastrocs are stretched and have mechanical advantage. With pointed feet its more difficult because the gastrocs are shortened and have mechanical disadvantage.

Oh I see. So hit a little. I always do with my calves fully extented. So what is better, extend or contract calves when doing leg curls?;D

I just don't see the point in trying to get a calf workout while doing leg curls. If you want to work all the leg muscles, then jsut do a compound exercise. Leg curls are called an isolation exercise for a reason u know.
