Somehow the real thing never lives up to the hype! Let me compare it to my all-time favourite, the Double Whopper.
Carl's Junior is just like any other fast-food joint, except for the free-flow of drinks. You look for a place, you order, you eat. No problem. So just to confirm, I asked the counter girl what's the biggest burger they've got on the menu, and yeap it's the Super Star. Ordered a medium meal, $10.20. Took a number and sat down to wait. When it came, I was disappointed. The darn thing looked no bigger than a DW. Maybe it's the wrapper. So I unwrapped it and...
Yeah, the bun looked better than Burger King, but it certainly wasn't noticeably bigger than a DW, if it was bigger at all. Then I lifted it up to take a closer look...
Forgive me for not looking like Paris Hilton! As I was saying, you can see it really isn't that big at all.
On the plus side, it does taste somewhat better that a DW without having a whole lot of ketchup and mayo slopped onto it (I always order my DW without ketchup and mayo, the stupid staff really slops the red and white on). I was all ready to scrap off the red and white but really, there wasn't much of it, just enough to cover the patty. And free-flow is always abusable! ;D
I would say if I happened to be around Suntec and Marina Square, I would make the trip to Carl's. Otherwise if you're just looking for a big beefy burger, stick to a DW Meal, it's $7.50, which is $2.70 cheaper. The DW itself is cheaper than the SS by $1. By the way, in case anyone thinks perhaps Carl's is selling downsized versions, I don't think so. I've eaten a DW in Los Angeles, it's no different from a local DW in terms of size.
So much for Carl's so-called big burgers! Not trying to promote gluttony here, but I'm sure none of us would mind having the really big American stuff! ;D
