sorry, but what does it mean to bench with shirt on or off? do i take it's literal meaning?

sorry, but what does it mean to bench with shirt on or off? do i take it's literal meaning? there is a thing called a "Bench shrit" its usuaslly thick denim or other material. it is a piece of equipment that assists the lifter to get the bar off from the chest to the mid poin t of the bench press. Its allowed in powerlifing. without bench shirt means "RAW" and unassisted by the equimpent... it does not mean topless:) regds Jonathan

The bench shirt has been critical in assisting people in the elusive 1000lbs bench. Note that there are stories of the occasional one or two people who ordered shirts so stiff that they could not get the bar down to their chest, automatically disqualifying them.

ITs paqrt of the skill of using a bench shirt. It puts more emphasis on the lockout i.e. tricep strength.
